SEO & organic discovery

BE THE USEFUL ANSWER.

Search is a moment of expressed demand. The opportunity is to meet that demand with something specific, credible and useful.

Start where the customer starts.

Someone searching for a product category is making a different decision from someone searching for a founder, a comparison or a technical answer. Those searches should not all land on one page that tries to do everything.

My approach is to connect the question to the next useful action. A company page explains the product and who it serves. A case study explains what happened and the evidence behind it. A methodology page explains how someone thinks and works.

Earn each page’s existence.

A site can have many pages and still say very little. Each page should answer a distinct question with information the reader could not get by changing a few words on another page.

Make the substance easy to access.

Clear headings, descriptive internal links and content available in the initial HTML help people and crawlers understand a site. Unique titles and accurate descriptions make each page’s purpose explicit. Canonical URLs and a sitemap make the preferred structure clear.

Put evidence beside the claim.

Use the right metric, time period and source. A historical user count should carry its date. A company appearance in a directory should be presented as that. Specific evidence is more useful than a wall of logos without context.

Keep the product connection.

A page should help someone understand or use the business. Traffic becomes more meaningful when the visitor can take a relevant next step, whether that is exploring a product, reading a case study or starting a conversation.

Measure the whole path.

Search impressions show exposure. Clicks show a visit. Neither, on its own, proves that the person found what they needed. I want to understand the connection between demand, discovery and the business outcome.

The review should therefore include which questions bring relevant people in, which pages help them and where the path breaks. That learning should guide the next content and product decisions.
